Grateful for another birthday...

decided to have a simple but nice birthday dinner at Spaghettini @Empire Hotel...wifey likes the grandness of the place...started off with this complimentary fresh baked bread with 3 different types of butter...the next thing was a shot of pumpkin cream? that was the bomb...

Black Angus Beef Carpaccio as appetizer...its the bomb...

wifey had the crispy salmon...

i had the grilled sea bass fillet with hand made seaweed linguini...desert is the main pic...chocolate mud cake with caramel ice cream...and of course birthday candles...its not a birthday without em...oh btw...be ready to bring plenty of cash...this will cost you but its worth it.

2012 is proving to be a new year with new horizons...i became a married man on the first week of the new year...and we moved office to a new building... anyways Chinese New Year is a few days away...Gong Xi Fa Chai to you all...see you when i see you!

Like most people I was shocked to hear about this...and like most people I like Apple products but cant afford most of them even-though I do have an iPhone 3GS...for me on a personal note it just goes to show you how fragile & precious life really is...this guy was a gazillionaire and all that $$$ couldn't save his life...anyways thanks Steve for great products...I do love your iPhone...even-though I can't stand how elitist some Apple users are against PC users like me,NY Times article here.

the first thing i had in South Korea was the Bulgogi Burger @Burger King...was good!!!

yes this cute puppy lives & sleeps in this scooter's box...

the Grand Hyatt in Seoul...USD$750 per night...company paid...I would not be able to afford such a stay if not for this being a company work trip :p

loved walking down this back alley with all the different variety of Korean street foods available...

authentic Bibimbap on the back alley streets of Seoul...only $7000 won plus the soft drink... wasn't too bad...

Incheon International Airport is HUGE!!! and the free WiFi is awesome... everywhere you go the signal is strong...

Working on this pictorial review of this excellent figure set has made me appreciate this item even more...its definitely a 'keep in the box' collection for me until I get a proper glass cabinet for it & the others. Anyways i hope you guys enjoy these pics and the other previous parts: 1 & 2. The movie Alien holds a special place in my childhood as i remember my late dad bringing us to the local movie theater when this movie premiered...it was so packed & it was like nothing we've ever seen. I've since watched the 2 first episodes aired...someone described it as 'The Sopranos in Middle Earth'...its full of intrigue and political chess playing concerning power & control...and its not a PG13 show as there's lots of hot women baring all...still its just 2 episodes so far as we speak...but Sean Bean as one of the major characters sure sold it for me,check the making of website here.

Base with alien planet surface as texture and a closed egg...

Tripod...unfortunately its just a solid piece of plastic and doesn't open up to form an actual tripod...

hand-held torch light...

Blaster...yes that's right...the very rarely seen blaster...in a deleted scene Kane unholsters his blaster before the face-hugger leaps out from the egg.

Told you so...

and now...definately the single most important item in this set...the helmet.

the fish-bowl like visor pops off...it helps to reposition the head after the helmet is placed on the suit.

Awesome details as ever...what we've come to expect from HotToys :P


And yes...just like the real thing...it has light up feature which really adds to how awesome this figure set is. The helmet's sculpt & detailing is pretty close to the origianl as you can see from shots of the actual prop below.

I missed my own 2nd anniversary??!!!

Can't believe it...i've been so so busy with life & work itself...i completely forgot that 11th March is the anniversary of my humble toy & lifestyle(?) blog...its been two years ++ since my very first step into the so called blogging world...

here is my first anniversary posting...

anyways i want to thank everybody who has visited my blog...apparently my biggest audience is from the States so a BIG THANK YOU there at the other side of the big pond...and of course my fellow Bruneians are my second biggest audience...thanks for the local support. I also have love for my Singaporean counterparts kam sia manyak ha...

i must admit i have slowed down in this treacherous hobby we call 'toy collecting' as reality & life's needs have taken its toll but i remain a child at heart and eventhough i may not match the monthly hauls of most toy bloggers i am still fascinated & impressed by things coming out everyday. I still use the same old Sony Cybershot for my shots but i will always ensure i give you the best self taken images possible within my skills & resources.

ironically...blogging about my toys (& certain adventures) have become just as much a big part of my liesure life as my collection of toys. Just as i stated from the very begining...sharing is caring...i will continue to share whatever modest collections i have in image form as what others are doing.

here's to another year of blogging...thank you all once again...and...much much delayed with apologies...my NEXT MEGA images collection post.

Soldier Story 1/6 US Army Future Combat Systems FCS Testing Team

As promised...here it is my pictorial review of this figure set.

This is my 2nd Soldier Story military figure set and as before the rifle is very tricky to put together and if your not careful or patient you could easily break this and that would suck big time so take it easy. Great details but very flimsy!

pretty good head-sculpt i have to say even though the eyes are a bit misaligned...the head-sculpt is of German actor Til Schweiger as Cynric from the 2004 King Arthur movie,not bad at all.

as again another great figure set from Soldier Story...well worth the Sg/Bnd$160 i paid for.

Sometimes good things come to people who are patient & hopeful...a bookshop corner in a mega-mart has had this item for sale for years...& trust me its hard to get stuff like this here. Initially the price tag was Bnd/Sgd$123.50...forget it no takers...then it went down to Bnd/Sgd$75.90 and i thought meh...we'll see.

Then last night while doing some CNY grocery shopping i spotted it...selling for Bnd/Sgd$49.90 and i knew i wasn't gonna walk away from it this time so i bargained with the shop dude & finally got it for...

Bnd/Sgd$43.00

Sure the box is a bit worn & torn but everything inside was as good as new (as you can see) and still had that new actfig smell...I consider this a treasure find as its one of DML's cooler old full-of-gear figure sets and definitely hard to find around these parts.

I've actually had this figure for ages...if not mistaken i actually ordered it from overseas cos this figure was impossible to find at the time. Then i lost the detachable back-pack thanks to my monkey of a nephew maybe like years ago...amazingly last weekend i found it in a basket of tools. Having the figure complete again oddly made me appreciate this old dirty little thing once again...for some reason I've always felt sandtroopers were bad ass cos of their grungy look...& they can survive wearing all that gear in the hot deserts of Tatooine...who cares if they sucked at accuracy shooting. Now I'm itching to get one of the newer sandtrooper figures before they disappear to accompany this one.

...oh damn...its 2011 already.

Theres nothing like a nice cold beer after a day of window shopping...

Had this for late lunch @ the old town centre...don't be fooled...even without any char siew this is by far the best kolo-mee I've had in ages...

Had a really pork filled Xmas dinner @ Mr Ho's Fine Foods near our hotel...sorry ha to my Muslim friends for this very non-Halal posting. The mixed salad was huge and i literally couldn't finish my mixed grill...missus had the crispy roasted pork knuckles...after this went for karaoke session & a bit of club hopping...

Been really busy with work etc lately...here are some snapshots from my Nokia E63 cellphone camera...

Had to host a German guests coming in to have a meeting with the boss last week...i don't mind cos i get to eat GOOD & stay out of the office to take him sight seeing...had an awesome late lunch that day together with the boss...syok...and for dinner we had Thai food *yumm.

our starter for late lunch @Villa Mauri in Muara...vege pizza & beef carpaccio...

...my boss & our German guest had the famous lamb shank but i decided to have the rib eye steak instead...

medium rare please...oh and the mashed potatoes WERE TO DIE FOR -_-.*

...the huge desert ice cream...2 scoops...couldn't finish...so sad...

also had a 2 nights in a row leadership course..it was alright cos the lecturer/trainer was damn funny and he really clicked on a lot of light-bulbs in my head...thank you Steven...oh ya dinner was served too so freebie food is always a plus...hey I'm human ok?

yes its that time of the year again...but in Brunei you'll only see Xmas decor in hotels...

brought the German guy to visit the mosque in town and walked about Kg Air (water village)...was cool...

from the 2009 movie Goemon...HT's MMS99 Saizo Kirigakure the master ninja...the movie sucked balls but i did want this figure when HT announced it way way back...now i have a 1/6 Ninja figure in my collection!

even the box is beautifully done...

a standard top notch sculpt by Yulli of Saizo as portrayed by Japanese actor Takao Osawa (who?)

amazing detail...& this is just the sword scabbard itself...

the beautifully crafted sword is an actual steel like material so it has that solid feel of an actual weapon...not too heavy for posing purposes though as i found out...

one of my favorite features on the figure...the beautiful Kote (traditional Japanese samurai armour sleeves)...best lah!

Saizo with his half-faced mask as in the movie...again i really like the incorporation of traditional samurai armor in the costume...

another shot of the Kote arm sleeve-armor & the sword...great elements which make this basic simple ninja suit stand out...

this figure is very agile for flexibility resulting in great poses but i'm not gonna push it as i still wanna keep this in-box to preserve its value...

Saizo as he is from the movie...like i said the movie sucked balls cos it was too full of CGI & just seemed the actors did all their scenes in front of a green scene...

I must admit I've kept this figure in the box safely tucked away for quite a long while now...i got it at China Square Central in Chinatown Sg together with this other guy...got it as part of t his haul...close to a year ago. How time flies.

...what an iconic looking poster...

its basically an assemble cast performance...think LOST except with zombies...LOTS of zombies...
but this guy is our 'Jack' or hero of the show...Andrew Lincoln as Deputy Rick Grimes. And as i suspected a virtual unknown but talented actor picked for such a show to play a Southern boy...ain't even American...another brilliant British actor.
the first pretty-faced walker Rick meets after he wakes from his coma...this beauty has her torso from the stomach down all torn away and moves around by a pitiful slow crawl...pretty ain't she? I lately feel & look like this after work -_-.*

of course the TV series is based on the hugely successful (yet i didn't know about it) comic book series of the same name. This is my new LOST in terms of my TV series diet even-though we're just up to episode 2.

I've been very VERY busy lately & just plain exhausted after work so the only thing I've had the energy & time for is this show...hope you guys understand the minimum usual stuff postings.

Btw would you believe i had a nightmare the other night about being chased & cornered by zombies & i ran out of bullets? Even one to off myself? Oh and i was Milla Jovovich from Resident Evil movie.

I kid you not.

Strike Eagle Prt.III(final)

i guess this wraps up my Academy 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle 3-part feature...here are the cockpit shots...GOD these were so hard to shoot but i guess it'll do. I've had this model for quite a while now as the permanent dust in the cockpit shows...i never considered this a fully completed project as there are still so many detailing i can do such as the pilot seat harness etc etc...and i didn't use any actual F-15E cockpit pictures for reference so its not perfect but hey its OK,I'm just an amateur modeler.

So that's it then...back into the display cabinet this piece goes...i still have quite a few unfinished projects & some still in the box but honestly scale modeling is such a time/patience consuming hobby..but the results are most times well worth it. Next?

I won't blah blah blah too much...let the pictures do the talking: at over 15 -inches in length...this mother was a bitch to photograph...my background manila-card wasn't even big enough for it. And getting good close-ups of the cockpit has been tough but I'll persevere...so here is part II i guess of my first Academy 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle post.

This took a while & some patience to do some years ago...I now remember why i stopped on my miniature models hobby for a bit...anyways please do enjoy.

Academy 1/48 F-15E Strike Eagle

had these pics for some time now so might as well crop em & post it up since its a slow office day...this is one of a very few of my full-on model kit projects: Academy's 1/48 scale F-15D Strike Eagle fighter jet. you can check out the kit review here.

I've never considered this a 100% fully finished project as there are a few minor detailing left to do i.e. the weathering of the jet engines rear nozzles etc. but as usual life takes over and stuff.

I don't remember exactly how much time i spent on this single project alone but it was a lot of painstaking hours...especially for the cockpit detailing and the payload of bombs on both wings...i was even invited to display this during the static displays show at the annual Army day exhibition at the stadium many years ago.

This thing was so heavy & so big it measured over a feet from nose-cone to the rear horizontal stabilizing wings...even the gray manila card i use for a background wasn't enough to cover it as you can see from the last pic. Anyways as usual enjoy the pics and please guys...if you like what you see rate the post by either leaving a comment or clicking on reactions below...so i know what you guys like to see more of in the future.

day-trip from a couple of weekends ago during the Raya (Eid Fitri) weekend holidays...it was either go to the Istana(palace) for Open House or Miri...from my place its less then an hour during normal traffic but we don't go that often even-though you get great currency exchange Bnd$1=Rm$2.2+...don't be fooled...you always end up spending more then you need to BUT the food is always cheap but great.

8 out of 10 times i always come here for lunch...roasted duck/char siew rice open air restaurant located near the 2020 cafe in Pelita commercial centre...near where the main pubs/clubbing areas. Damn damn cheap but great stuff...not as great eaten after-wards if you take-away...gotta eat on the spot right after they chop it up.

we always order a plate of this...stir fried 'meeding'(?) or 'pakis' with baby shrimps...its a fern type of vegetables which grows wild on the highway heading into Miri town...you can often see people just picking the stuff off the road sides on a daily basis...great stuff...not available in Brunei or the mainland West Malaysia...odd.

had this kolo-mee at one of the many residential food-stalls opposite E-mart on the way home...not great but ok.

still no Singha Thai beer...so got this to try out...Miller draft beer...and yes you can bring in a limited amount of alcohol/beer into Brunei only for non-Muslims...just fill out a yellow declaration form at the customs on the way back...

Parksons...always crowded and always traffic jammed but the upper building parking makes it easier nowadays...

old-town or 'lau par sat'...mum always likes coming here to buy cheap supplies such as incense etc for the house prayer-altar.
